First I'm just going to say that I had the most awesome day of my life, I feel very very lucky and a day like this will probably never happen again. While the rest of my life falls to pieces everything Tokio Hotel related somehow seems to run beyond smoothly and I seem to be accidentally in the right place at the right day. I traveled down to London with
tiggerdabounce2 and
nymphetamine_x_, we of course had Tokio Hotel playing in the car the whole way and I'm glad to say that we only got slightly lost once! GPS thingies are wondrous inventions, Tigger's actually tried to take us into the N1 Centre's car park (the Academy is in the N1 shopping centre) and it was here that we got our first glimpse of the queue at about 3pmish. There wasn't really space for all the girls actually and queue was a bit messed up with it stopping and start in various places to allow the shoppers to get to the car park and toilets.
I met up with
claireyfairy1,
beren_writes,
thwax and lots of other online peeps which was awesome as I have never met any of them before and I pleased to say they were all lovely! We found a spot in the queue and kind of set up almost a camp site and joined the other 200 people who were already there. There wasn't actually much singing, kind of disappointing really but then I wasn't brave enough to start singing so I can't really talk on the matter! Most of the fans seemed to be French thought there was a fair number from Germany and Denmark too. I have never seen so many bewildered people before, no one had ever seen anything like this outside the Academy before as its a very small venue and big bands just don't play there. I got quizzed several times by shoppers about what was going on, I got quizzed by the checkout guy in Sainsbury's too while buying some food, of which I got half way through a scotch egg and then realized I was too nervous to eat!
The queue time went surprisingly quickly, I had fun handing out glow sticks to people and bumping into Ellie (from the uk forum) and
lenorea who both recognized me first, its very confusing having your name called and not having a clue of the face to look for. We had a bit of excitement when Tokio Hotel arrived in their big silver cars, they were huge and had really tinted windows so we couldn't see a thing. I felt sorry for the security guard stood near us trying to calm the girls down. We were handed out pieces of paper a little later with the lyrics to Ready, Set, Go! it explained that they'd be filming for a special video for the song and that they wanted us to sing and entertain.
They had just started the filming when we got the phone call asking us to go to the front door of the Academy, we squeezed our way out of the packed queue, which is quite hard when two of you are on crutches, we walked to the front and got appropriately glared at. We were joined by three other fans and a mother, all us us looked very nervous and were quietly squeeing. We were then taken to an odd door and lead inside. The stage door was nicely labeled as such and as we approached it I began to realise there was some very familiar music coming from inside. Bill's voice was absolutely flawless, it was the most amazing sound to hear! We were rushed to outside the stage doors by a rather angry looking security guy who explained that they were still doing the sound check and we couldn't come in yet. It would seem there was quite a bit of mis-communication between the English staff and the German. So we waited outside, listening to them play through the door. Tigger pointed out something to me later which I realised was true when thinking back on it, he was singing Scream but never actually sung 'scream' he always stopped or left the word out, most odd!
They finally let us inside the venue and upstairs to the Mezzanine level. We got a good look at the stage below and Tom really does have too many guitars. Here we waited more, we were told the boys were running quite late and I have to admit to not being suprised at this. While waiting I asked the lady how the good the boy's English was, she told me that it was pretty good really and that they're just a bit shy about using it. Finally Saki came from a little far door and shouted "Actung!" at us heh. He told us the boys would be out in a minute and that they were just normal boys so treat them like that! (I'm guessing they've had quite a few crazy fan experiences). He then told us to get what we want signed ready and that when they finished that they'll move onto photos ( well he actually said they'd do a photo, his English is a bit dodgey at times). He disapears again but promptly returns, boys in tow.
At first all I could notice was Bill's hair, is SO HUGE and incredibly soft looking. Then when you get passed the hair (and believe me it takes a while to) there is this incredibly beautiful and delicate looking face. In fact both the twins looked absolutely flawless and incredibly delicate, so skinny and kind of bird like. Georg's new hair is gorgeous I really really love it and Gustav was just such a sweetie. They came and made sure they said hi, shook everyone's hand and were so sweet doing it all. Saki is the keeper of the signing pens as Bill who was stood right next to me turned to him and started signing my stuff. When I next looked up Tom was also right next to me pen in hand so I got his next and promptly dropped a piece of paper... I wasn't nervous at all really! *shifty eyes* He looked a little suprised when I asked him to sign my concert ticket but did it anyway. Georg was next on my list, his voice is just... yeah so deep and so soothing. He asked me where exactly I wanted him to sign on everything. My theory that Gustav is the brains of the band was confirmed as he had set himself up with a table to sign at and let us come to him!
I wandered round them for a bit, people were giving them present, the best of which had to be two My Little Pony's for Bill and Tom! So now we had the photos. The guys went and stood by a wall, immediately falling into formation with a gap between the twins for us to squeeze into. So I did, they were talking to each other in German, I was too nervous to try and even work out what they were saying instead I just watched them talk to each other. So photo was taken and we had to say good bye. For most of the meet and great I was quiet, I'm not good with strangers, famous ones too. I think I may have said thank you like a dozen times though heh. It was actually quite relaxed and I think the guys were surpirsed by how normal we all were.
By this time the doors to the gig were meant to be open and we had to point out that two of us were on crutches, they were super nice to us and let us straight into the venue. This is how I got the best place to stand in the whole venue, I just stood there and refused to move I felt kind of bad at times though but soon realised that this was likely a once in a life time opportunity and that I couldn't move away from there if I wanted to, I pissed some people off though but I'm having trouble guilt tripping myself. I've managed to get great photos to share with all my friends who couldn't make it, there is a picspam of doom coming seriously doom worthy. The doors opened and people began to make their way through, I think they were being let in in small groups which was very sensible by the venue peeps. We were immediately crushed against the barrier. I have never been so squished or hot in my entire life! There was no moving from my spot then even if I'd wanted to. We were stuck there for about an hour, the band took ages to come out, meanwhile there were odd little fight going on behind me, seriously I'm not joking, some of these girls were violent. The security people were fantastic handing out water to us. While waiting many roadies got cheers, the towels got cheered and Bill's megaphone got a huge applause!
Eventually Tom comes out and launches straight into Ready, Set, Go!, followed by Georg, Gustav and then a bouncy singing Bill. You could just see the boys faces light up as they realised that they were getting a great reception, they all seemed so suprised by it! Okay lets do this by boy. Bill, his singing was perfect seriously he never slipped up once through the whole gig, he has so much energy on stage, I got to see his dancing in the flesh, it looks a little less awkward in real life but not much, it got such a big cheer! His smile is just the best, no one can look happier than him when he smiles, it just seems very open and honest. When he looks at you can't look away either, just *fans self at the memory*. Gustav actually spends a a lot of his time looking over the drum kit at the crowd and he smiles! briefly but quite often! He was seriously pounding on those drums. Tom gave us some show-off guitar poses more so than Georg whose hair started getting wavy by the end of the night. They were all sweating buckets! I was too though, I quickly learnt not to bounce when the guys did cause that led to having metal barrier in my chest.
The set was about an long and just seemed to fly by. They ended on Scream and came back with stool and played Rescue Me and By Your Side all acoustic, with only Bill and Tom coming out at first. During By Your Side I hate to admit I cried, that song just seems to always make me cry, anyway worse, there was a guy filming during that song, he kept doing crowd shots, how embarrassing! Though I wonder where the vid will turn up? It ended far too soon for my liking, but it had to end some time. I got drench several times by Tom, Bill, Georg and especially Gustav as they chucked water over us. There was also a big jump and fight for Tom's guitar pick above my head, I just kind of ducked and let the girls get on with it. Gustav took out his ear pieces so he could here our screams, did a bow and then they were gone.
We put their cd's on really loud and sung the whole drive home, I had the best day of my life.
